Bumper audience at fraud and cyber security workshop
There was a bumper audience at Lowestoft East Point Rotary Club for the visit of Dr Steve Jones who delivered a fraud and cyber security workshop on behalf of Norfolk & Suffolk Police and the Norwich Business School at the University of East Anglia.
The interactive session focused on raising awareness of fraud – a crime costing the UK over £130 billion annually.
The audience , which included members of Lowestoft East Point, Lowestoft, Lowestoft South and Blyth Valley Rotary Clubs plus partners and other invited guests, explored different types of fraud and were challenged to improve their own cyber security measures.
Dr Jones proved to be a very engaging speaker on a subject which is rarely out of the news these days.
Equally compelling is the story of Steve’s journey from near death after a serious motorbike accident in 2018 to becoming a Lecturer in Digital Business and Cyber Security at UEA.
He attributes his recovery to the rapid response of the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) and the NHS who looked after him for ten weeks in hospital, five of which he spent in a coma.
In gratitude, Steve now raises money for the Air Ambulance service and President Richard Fox was pleased to present him with a cheque for £500 on behalf of Lowestoft East Point Rotary Club to help ensure that the EAAA continues the invaluable work that saved his life.
A further £20 was donated by a grateful visitor attendee!
